Most pilots on VATSIM fly using Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) because that is how the real-world airlines fly. Many virtual pilots are unfamiliar with how to fly under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), even though real-world pilots learn VFR flying before they tackle the complexities of IFR.
To help pilots learn about VFR on VATSIM, we have prepared this brief explanation of how to fly VFR. All of these instructions are for use only on VATSIM -- there are some situations in the real world that are different than this.
