The Columbia River Poker Run is Seattle's third installment of our annual poker run event! For those unfamiliar, a poker run is basically a general aviation fly-in, poker style! Pilots grab their favorite "PROP" General Aviation aircraft and have the choice of starting in one of 5 locations:
- Portland International (KPDX)
- Portland - Hillsboro (KHIO)
- Salem (McNary) Oregon (KSLE)
- Portland - Troutdale (KTTD)
- Kelso Washington (KKLS)
You may start at any location, but the airfields must be flown to in order. Upon landing at each field, the pilot is to call the "Dealer" (position to be announced) and request a card. All the cards dealt out will be recorded by the dealer and the pilot with the best 5 card poker hand at the end, wins! They will have bragging rights throughout the VATSIM community as the best poker playing pilot!

This is not a race, you simply need to reach the 5 fields in your curcuit to get your hand to play. Weather permitting, this will be a VFR event with mandatory flight following for all participating pilots. IFR procedures will be enforced for any segments in or out of participating airports which are IMC during the event.

Routes
In VFR conditions, navigation will be up to individual pilots to maintain VFR separation and appropriate routing. The following are suggested VFR routes. In the event of IFR conditions, see the IFR routings located below in the Airport Information section.
- KPDX to KHIO = Follow the Columbia river west to Cornelius Pass (the low point in the hills west of PDX where the Columbia and Willamette rivers join), expect handoff from Portland Tower to Hillsboro Tower at Cornelius Pass. For calm winds at KHIO expect a right-downwind entry for Rwy 30 at KHIO.
- KHIO to KSLE = Depart Hillsboro southbound toward the Newberg VOR (UBG 117.40), expect flight flight following from PDX_S_APP until shortly after UBG, then SEA_L6_CTR or SEA_S_CTR from UBG to Salem. Salem is roughly heading 160 from UBG and 25 miles enroute. For calm winds, expect instructions for left-downwind entry for Rwy 31. Expect departing traffic east of the pattern (straight-out off Rwy 34).
- KSLE to KTTD = Depart Salem heading 015, expect flight following from SEA_L6_CTR or SEA_S_CTR for 15-20 miles, then expect handoff to PDX_S_APP. Expect instructions join the left-downwind for Rwy 25, or to cross over KTTD midfield to join the left-downwind for Rwy 7.
- KTTD to KKLS = Expect a turn to the north to cross the Columbia River, expect handoff to PDX_N_APP and fly a heading of roughly 300 to join the Columbia River near Scappoose. Following the Colubia River north to Kelso, expect a handoff to SEA_L4_CTR or SEA_S_CTR for flight following north of the Portland area. There is no control tower at KKLS, announce your intentions on 122.80. Traffic pattern is WEST of the airport due to terrian to the East. Straight-in Rwy 30 is NOT recommended due to terrain!
- KKLS to KPDX = Contact SEA_L4_CTR or SEA_S_CTR for flight following before departing. They will control the release time at the start of the event! Follow the Columbia River south (*Use caution for aircraft opposite direction coming to KKLS!*), expect handoff to PDX_N_APP just south of Kelso. Expect instructions to enter a right-downwind for 28R or left-downwind for 10L.
